  • 중문대 강병호 교수 (Life Sciences) “From Green to Brown: How Plants Prepare Seeds for Dormancy”

We will examine maturing oilseed embryos using 3D electron microscopy to capture the structural intermediates during chloroplast dedifferentiation. By employing high-pressure freezing, an ultra-rapid freezing that preserves cellular structures in their natural state, we'll track how thylakoid membranes disappear and how large chloroplasts shrink into small proplastids. Understanding this process could lead to improvements in seed quality, storage longevity, and germination performance—critical factors for agriculture and global food security. • 홍콩대 기동근 교수 (Physics) “The Chain Fountain effect”

The Chain Fountain effect is a mechanical phenomenon in which a chain, when pulled over the edge of a container and allowed to fall freely under gravity, spontaneously rises upward at certain points, forming a fountain-like arch. While it is understood that this effect results from the interplay of gravity, momentum, and tension within the chain, the precise underlying mechanism remains illusive. In this project, we aim to investigate this phenomenon experimentally with a particular goal to find the key parameters that influence the height (and shape) of the chain's arch.

  • 홍콩대 김영원 교수 (Public Health) “Reallocating time across sedentary behaviour and physical activity for prevention of cardiovascular disease in individuals with diabetes: integrated use of wearables, genomic data and electronic medical records.”

The purpose of this study will be to examine the associations of time reallocations between wearable-device-measured ST and different intensities of PA for cardiovascular disease risk in individuals with diabetes across varying levels of genetic risk. Currently, there is no evidence as to whether cardiovascular disease could be prevented in individuals with diabetes through different intensities of PA in exchange for ST. Moreover, little is known about the utility of individuals’ genetic make-up for cardiovascular disease prevention through movement behaviours in individuals with diabetes. • 홍콩대 신동명 교수 (Mechanical Engineering) “Smart Glove for Sign Language Translation”

Here, we propose the development of a novel class of smart glove that integrates liquid metal conductors with functional polymers. This material combination is expected to enhance signal-to-noise ratios under asymmetric mechanical loading while concurrently improving device robustness and longevity. Successful realization of such smart gloves would accelerate the deployment of functional, self-powered wearable electronics. ( 연구내용 전문 보기 >  이공_신동명교수님.pdf )

  • 씨티유 양성칠 교수 (Neuroscience) “Electrotherapy of electrocorticography (ECoG) brain-computer interface (BCI) in alleviating brain disorders”

To address the limitations of current technologies, we will introduce a micro-ECoG (µECoG) electrode array, which utilizes a multichannel configuration implanted directly onto the cortical surface. This approach will offer clinically relevant advantages, including high-resolution recording and stimulation, excellent biocompatibility, unlimited repeatability, and mechanical conformality for stable long-term interfacing. In particular, our newly designed µECoG array will overcome the invasiveness associated with penetrating electrode arrays and the poor spatial resolution inherent in conventional brain imaging modalities. • 중문대 김경태 교수 (Information System) “Using Artificial Intelligence to Predict Bitcoin Prices”

This project explores how artificial intelligence (AI) techniques can be applied to predict fluctuations in Bitcoin prices. We will investigate how AI models, such as traditional machine learning models, deep neural networks, and generative AI models, can analyze historical Bitcoin data to identify patterns and trends.

The project will begin with collecting publicly available data (e.g., daily Bitcoin prices, trading volume, or social media sentiment). We will then preprocess this data and experiment with basic predictive models using software programming tools such as Python.

The primary goal is to understand how AI models learn from past data to make short-term forecasts, evaluate their accuracy, and reflect on the limitations of such methods in real-world financial prediction. ( 연구내용 전문 보기 >  상경_김경태교수님.pdf )

  • 폴리유 문승균 교수 (Hotel and Tourism Management) “Dynamics of Hotel Room Price”

This project aims to analyze the relationship between booking lead times (or days) and hotel room prices across various hotels (e.g., 5-star, 4-star, and 3-star hotels) in the most popular tourist destinations (e.g., Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, and Singapore) over a one-month period (data will be collected each day at the same time). By examining different stay durations (3, 2, and 1 day stays) at the selected hotels, the study seeks to identify patterns and trends in hotel room pricing based on temporal distance to the check-in date. The project will involve collecting data on room prices, booking dates, stay durations, and hotel characteristics from online travel agencies (e.g., Agoda.com, Booking.com, and Trip.com). ( 연구내용 전문 보기 >  상경_문승균교수님.pdf )

  • 폴리유 배준희 교수, joint with 조민정 박사 (Fashion School) “Fashion Brand Logos and Teen Self-Presentation: Does the Visibility of Brand Logos Aid Self-Presentation?”

Clothing prominently displaying famous fashion brand logos can serve as a means of conspicuous consumption for teenagers. Some teen consumers wear clothes showing brand logos to gain recognition within their peer group and express their identity. This topic can be explored through surveys and experiments.( 연구내용 전문 보기 >  상경_배준희교수님.pdf )

  • 홍콩대 백승호 교수 (Management) “Evaluating the Impact of an Inquiry-Based AI Chatbot on Students’ Critical Thinking in Strategic Management”

This project investigates how inquiry-oriented artificial intelligence (AI) can enhance students’ critical thinking in strategic management education. The rapid adoption of generative AI in higher education has generated concern that students may increasingly rely on automated answers, thereby weakening their ability to reason, evaluate evidence, and construct arguments. In contrast to answer-providing systems such as ChatGPT, this study examines an inquiry-based AI chatbot designed to engage students in Socratic dialogue—asking probing questions rather than supplying solutions.( 연구내용 전문 보기 >  상경_백승호교수님.pdf )

  • 폴리유 신승훈 교수 (Hotel and Tourism Management) “Impact of Comments on Viewer Perception of Travel Videos on Social Media”

This project investigates how comments influence viewers’ perceptions of travel videos on social media, with a focus on travel video logs (vlogs) uploaded to YouTube. Specifically, it examines whether the presence of positive or negative comments alters viewers’ attitudes toward both the video and the featured destination. Recognizing that YouTube comments vary in content type (Madden et al., 2013), the project also explores which types of positive and negative comments exert the strongest influence on viewer perceptions. Additionally, given that viewers access YouTube via different devices (Southern, 2025), the project assesses whether the effects of comment presence and content type differ between computers and mobile devices.
